Talk about vision coming to fruition! In the past two weeks, we no longer need to imagine what the renovated and expanded Retreat Center will look like—the construction is far enough along now that we can see how welcoming and accessible this facility will be. The north-end addition adds a completely different and more hospitable entry.
A number of folks have asked, “How is construction going?” Overall it is going very well. We have competent and skilled craftsmen working very hard on the project and we are pleased with their attention to detail and awareness of time constraints. However, if you’ve ever built a home or participated on a building project team, you likely know that the project often ends up taking longer than originally anticipated. The same is true in this case. While the weather has been very cooperative and the warmer-than-normal temperatures have helped with utility bills, some of the materials were delayed in production and slowed the progress in December. The material has since arrived and the workers are doing their best to make up some lost time. The delay pushes back the move-in date to the first week of May, rather than early April. Thankfully, this still gives us time to prepare for the 90 college students arriving the first of June for summer camp staff training and orientation!
Please continue praying for the project. Specifically pray for the safety of the workers, the progress of the construction, and all the people who will experience a retreat in the new and updated space.
We can’t wait to welcome you to our newly renovated Retreat Center in the spring of 2016! We’d love to give you a tour and show you around!
