My favorite passage of scripture is:

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

This has always been my favorite verse to read, but not always to live. It’s easy to act joyful, but I’ve found the challenge lies in being honestly joyful. I use this verse as a goal for my life. It is a goal to continue to be a Christian in the dark and light parts of life, giving everything over to Christ.

As Christians, we are called to give ourselves entirely to Christ and to follow in all situations, not just when it is easy, fun, or popular. The life as a Christian does not grant a perfect life, but rather promises a life eternal filled with purpose. God wants happiness for us, but leaves us the responsibility to choose joy, hope, and a grateful heart in all that we do. Remember that we won’t always get it "right," but it is the Lord who looks at our hearts, and who smiles upon a spirit of perseverance. However, we are not charged with the challenge of these instructions alone. Lean on others and rely on God because we were not created to live our lives alone.
