Selecting and Training of Summer Staff
GENEVA takes great pride in the quality of our staff and know that, as a parent, it is one of your greatest concerns as well. Because the relationship your child has with his or her counselor forms the core of the camp experience, we want those who spend the week with your child to be caring, faith-filled role models who can give your child an experience they'll remember for a long time.
All of the applicants for staff positions are personally interviewed by our program staff and screened by checking at least three character references as well as being cleared by criminal background and National Registry of Sex Offenders checks. Once hired, they go through an extensive ten-day staff training program covering our expectations of staff, conduct standards, how to create positive camper relationships, dealing with emergencies and camper problems, safety and first aid training, and guidelines for carrying out camp programs and activities. And throughout the time your child is at camp, his or her counselor is surrounded by other staff who help carry out the program and assist them in creating the memories that your child takes home from camp.
